I’ve have been meaning to write a post like this for ages. As we often get asked more about Zeal’s “in house” brand it would seem this will make an interesting read for some people and answer some questions you may have had about Alone. Read on… why not.

Spring / Summer 2004…. we were approached by a contact in Taiwan that worked with us saying there was a facility to make a full post weld heat treated bmx frame and if we came up with the design they would get it done. It sounded very tempting so we had to give that a go!. The design was done and the frame was made….

(Above: The first ever Alone Maiden prototype frame rotting in a garage in south west London). Anyway, long story short the frame held up great and we did a few production runs improving on the design each time. Other Products came along; seats, posts, hubguards etc… even a complete entry level bike which was one of the biggest selling completes at UK BMX mail orders in Xmas 2005. Plans were well under way for more new frames and products when Alone’s then owners went to the wall.

The summer of 2007 managed to bring about many changes for Alone. The brand was now part of Hitcher’s new distribution comapny Zeal and as a bonus found itself 100% rider owned and run by the same guys who did it before. However, the first six months under the new ownership proved slow as we were so busy setting up Zeal and working with the other awesome brands which they supply we had no time to develop anything new. It was by working with these other companies at Zeal that made us decide to put frames on the back burner and focus on other areas of a bike so as to not take anything away from these brands.

In now almost two and a half years with Zeal the Alone product range has started to find it’s feet. We have an ever expanding line of items…. a big thanks to all the help from our team riders and Big Money Brian (our art guy). You can check out our products here on the Zeal website or over at the Alone BMX website.

(Above: A peek at a few of the new products due in 2010).
So here we are in 2010….. Keddie, Hitcher, Big Money and myself have been working on some new products and have some exciting team trips in the pipeline too. Keep an eye out for more from Alone this year. A huge thank you to anyone who has ever put an Alone product on their bike…. you guys make it what it is! An honest rider owned BMX company!

Good old Alone. I owe em everything i’ve got from riding. Portugal trip is a fond memory as well as the Maiden test i did at Southbank many moons ago with Bel. The prototype maiden 2 is now my wheel building jig. Rory still runs the last Alone i had before i ducked out from riding for a bit. Still going strong. FACT: Dan Figg’s(Proper UK team) all time favourite frame was a Maiden 2 which he still uses as his fully loaded bike. Thank’s for giving me the pleasure of riding for such a sound bunch of peeps and a cool company.
