Harrow Skate Park back in the Day!!!
You lot these days are so lucky!
Back in the 80′s early 90′s in the Bauer Turbo and Caledonian Bauer (Martin had, I was always jelous of) Roces boots( Which became too poular and the Trzetas (which I ended up in with pink inners still unscratched, probably made me look a bit of a poof lol which I aM NOT Thankyou oh and the red “The best” titaniams Tiral had ( lets do a step in lol,,, Remember!),, that no one could get hold of!!!(hello mate long time no see, never got to catch up in Chigcagoes with that crappy the Jam band that night, if you ever read this!) Dayz (Sorry forgot to mention the amutaures on there rainbows (with the scratching you can hear the sea and a storms coming, oh no its remindeed me of that splitting headache!) Skating all Days Evenings and until we couldnt see anymore or just before our curfew aor your old man was waiting at home with the Belt Times
Harrow Skate park was almost Derelict, the Peanut,Performace, and Pool or whatever you call them these days were filled in with Mud and stones!
Summer/Winter nice and Rainy nights any excuse for a place to smoke fags being underage (SWIM) and have a laugh galavanting out for the night until the cows come home we used to camp out – (telling our parents we were sleeping at a friend house NOT) under our makeshift borrowed Leisure centre barrier and Step ply Board for Half pipe step ins/tricks etc sitting on the milkman missing milk bottle crates to escape the Rain storms, up to 15/20 Teens + painfully tried to dig out the filled in bits for hours on end with our makeshift and borrowed in the shadow from a nearby alotment spades and forkes only to find a couple of days later some bizzzy bod had grassed us up and the park man and council would and come fill them back up fresh
The halfpipe and muguls were the best and favorite not filled in then for skaters if we wanted more feature we travelled in Gangs of us inc the Harrow Hawks Dolphins Trjans oh and more peeewee lot not forgetting the streethawks + maybe lots of others which reminds me being on the underground witnessing skaters skating the escalators like nutters and presing any button they see lol (happy stepping pedestrians climbing up the giant steep escalators!!! brings a chuckle and a grin to my face!!!
Most of the year the crap bumpy end of the halfpipe was like a infested duck pond and stunk of skunk NOT the stuff some people smoke (SWIM) lol! I ended up in it once during having a Ruck with biker (BMX and SKaters never got on “Bloody bikes” lol although I used to be one hahah!!! over nothing become mates with him later, as every one really was in the good atmnosphere of fun laughs broken arms tricks skills sore grazed knees smelly inners bumped heads fcuked stoppers worn sims wheels and noisey presicion bearings loads more I forget!!! (shame video phones were not out then because I cant find anything on youtube of the good old days and sketches and Burtons!!!)) old lingo!!!
Some times tried to plunge and bail the weed and the sludge twats threw down the drains, now and again being succesfull, and in the sun we painted the haldpipe with smooth hammerite we obtained at the good end which made it very fast and pefect for working/ handplants/Airiels/Backwards plants/Step ins/Rock and Rolls/backwards step ins which I only see one mate do who was scared and couldnt do forward plants (Norman)! + now and again had the best graffiti art muriels sprayed up by the famous at the time taggers ( I rember the quartet charecters sprayd up perfect in there in such quality! Quartet being the Arcade game of the moment! (Kodi Syle) Ufortunatley the amatures taggers of the world used to destroy and mess up up the scenery with there (SWIM) Duplicolour spray cans swim happened to get possesion of with there stoopid tag names lol!
I Always remember the bollox being Ricky and Stephan! (Popping out of Ricky/Stephan) nearly breaking our legs tring to jump the fence and hooking up ahhhh!!!
I could probabley go on and on like ariston as I have loads ad loads of great memorys back in the day but wouldnt want to bore everyone eg. Roller Disco speed Skating and chariots JWP DJ crazy free Ticket comps lol (oops there I go again) please stop me I wish I had a flux capaciter!) maybe I will revite here to check for replys another time soon and fill you in a bit more if anyones still awake!
My moral to the story is Gospel nothing jacanory, I wanted to point out you kids are very lucky to have Harrow Skate Park the best and looked after well these days it looks mint and in its prime apart from all your crap graphiti – joking!(enjoy your days in this park it is the best and has probabley the best halfpipe in the world, well at least half of it lol never got to try the pool there
I Would love it if the Wide truck street hockey Possey craze would come out of the woodwork shake off the cobwebs and become the in thing again! (maybe one day and kick all rubbish the hazardess bikers out who get the way (just messing the park is for everyone enjoy) (skateboarders were always cool and hard nuts with bandaners and mostly liked freestyling the bollox as I remember)!!!
Maybe one day I will visit the park again and skate as still have my pink sims new stoppers put on many moons ago and trazeters boots with pink inners lol (im not a pooof homesst no offence to you nufters) but would love to be back in touch with anyone who remmebers these crazy skating ong days of joy and mentalness of the past but never forgotten!
